My husband and made a quick stop at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge. You can find this place in Philadelphia. It is adjacent to the Philadelphia International Airport. We've been there plenty of times and we were expecting to see herons, however; this time we didn't encounter then. We have seen them often there but we didn't stay long. I'm not sure if they have patterns where they are there certain times of the year or were they hiding. Often, they can catch you off guard and quickly fly overhead. You find yourself saying oh I missed it, that would have been a good photo. Sometimes you see them hiding in the grass or by the edges of the water near the grass. I've heard there are bald eagles there, but we have yet to see any. Often, we see another type of bird. These little birds can be seen flying across the bridge and the water. They fly very fast and are difficult to take a photo of if you aren't ready. Well, this time one of them decided to perch on top of a branch sticking out of the water. We could have missed a photo opportunity but there was another photography taking a photo the little bird. I started to take some too. It was funny. It was as if this bird was posing for a photo shoot. So even though it was a quick trip I did manage to get some photos taken. I looked up the bird and it turns out that the bird is known as a barn swallow.
